WORLD’S TOP EATERS COMPETE FOR A SEAT IN NATHAN’S FAMOUS JULY FOURTH INTERNATIONAL HOT DOG EATING CONTEST

On July 4, 2006, the eyes of the world will focus on Coney Island for what is believed to be the 91st installment of the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest. Four-time world champion Takeru Kobayashi of Japan will look to make history as he defends his title against top eaters from around the globe.

My gut feeling says there'll be a new worlds record. Current is 53 1/2 dogs... last years winner was 49 dogs. All by the same guy, Takeru Kobayashi.

I pulled it from the Fanny Craddock cooking site as per your recommendations.

World Cup was good to me, although I needed the US to produce a result in their group play to have made a killing. But that's what Nathan's is for.

T&T football is in trouble because there are already problems with funding going forward. Typical stuff for TTFF though. Thanks for the kudos. Just hoped a few people heard me.

Thanks for the heads up. It is now -199. $100 max wont make anyone rich but I think this has very good chance to hit as long as the kid doesnt get sick or something. (cross fingers)
If they move number to 46 with low juice Ill hit it again.

This kid eats 40 in 9 minute practice sessions. Whats another 5 in 3 more minutes.
According to SF Chronicle he has eaten 32.5 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 min, 173 chicken wings in 30 min beating old record by 16 and 5.5 lbs of pork ribs in 12 minutes

Line is now 47 -140
Must have been playing poker when it went to 46.
Ill make one more small bet.
He has stated that 50 is a minimum goal for contest.

Sonya Thomas qualified with 36.5 hotdogs this year. She was having big trouble finishing her final dog, and was only credited for half. (I think they were being generous by giving her half, she should have only been credited with eating 36 dogs) For her to eat over 38.5 means another 2 full dogs/buns... which in my eyes will be hard for her to do.
I'm thinking Under 38.5 for +150 @ Bet365 is a good play.

The pressure's on and it makes it even more difficult.

I took this bet as well at +139. Looks pretty good considering she hasnt eaten this many yet.

I also took Simpson +193/Thomas. He ate 38 in qualifying, 2nd highest American total next to Chestnut. My main concern with him is newcomer jitters. If qualifying wasnt fluke he will out eat Simpson.

Bertoletti +243 /Simpson. Was favorite over Simpson in qualifying but only ate 31 or 32. If Simpson is a one hit wonder then good shot for this to win to cover above bet.

My just for fun Superfecta pick with projected totals Kobayashi 53, Chestnut 51.5, Simpson 37, Thomas 36.

Im big on Chestnut over 45 and 47. ( as big as $100 bets will get you)
Pretend the alcohol is hotdogs:drink:
This is how I want to see them go down.:grandmais

Hey Lab. Wanna sell some of that +450 on Chestnut ?, down to +230 or so now.

Good luck on your/ our bets. Post time is 12 est on ESPN
See you at the pay window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see other is +143 now
I like that better than laying -177
If chestnut can equal qualifying of 50 then Kobi must break record for bet to win.
If you want action I would go with the "dog"

7/4/2006
Takeru Kobayashi of Japan ended the 2006 Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest as champion once again, setting a new world record of 53 and 3/4 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes.

But not without a major challenge from rookie Joey Chestnut of San Jose, Califonia, who set a new American record of 52 HDBs in 12 minutes.

Chestnut led Kobayashi for the first half of the contest, establishing a two hot dog lead before slowly losing ground to the five-time winner from Nagoya. By the 10-munite mark, Chestnut was a dog and a half behind and could not mount the comeback necessary to win.

Never before, however, has an american performed so well against Kobayashi and never before has America been so galvanized by a sports hero. The crowd of more than 30,000 cheered Chestnut on throughout the contest, but especially in the final minutes, chanting "Joey," "Joey."

Sonya Thomas placed third with 37 HDBs, Patrick Bertoletti ate 34.5, Eater X had 34, and Chip Simpson consumed 33.

The event, which was preceded by an extravagant show featuring Coney Island performing talent, took place in nearly 90-degree heat and nearly 90 percent humidity. Some eaters were overwhelmed with the heat and their performance was impacted.

Many in the crowd expressed dismay that a scheduled performance by the dance troupe, Clogtastica, had to be cancelled due to technical delays. Still others expressed horror that show organizers chose to proceed with a rap rendition of Burt Bacharach's "Say a Little Prayer" by George Shea rather than running with Clogtastica, the Neat Eating Contest, or the much-anticipated "Dance Battle to the Death."
